Assistant Instructor is the first half of the instructor course — and the best way to find out whether teaching people to dive is what you want to do.
From leading to teaching
A divemaster leads divers who already know how. An assistant instructor teaches those who do not yet — and that is an entirely different skill. You learn to break a task into parts, to demonstrate it so it can be copied, and to judge whether a student has truly mastered a skill or merely got it right once.
What you can do afterwards
Run selected PADI programmes independently, teach the specialties you are qualified for, and assist on full courses.
What comes next
The Instructor Development Course and the instructor examination. The AI programme counts towards the IDC.
