Forty metres is the limit of recreational diving, and it is not set arbitrarily. Below it three things grow at once: gas consumption, nitrogen narcosis, and the consequence of every mistake.
On this course you go deep four times with an instructor and carry out a simple task on the bottom — so that you see for yourself what narcosis does to your thinking. That is an experience no lecture replaces.
You learn to plan with a gas reserve, to recognise in yourself and your buddy the moment to go shallower, and to treat the no-decompression limit as a hard number rather than a suggestion.
