In Poland the diving season runs all year — provided you have a dry suit. It decides whether a December dive is a pleasure or an ordeal.

A dry suit does change how you dive: you now have two independent sources of buoyancy instead of one, and you have to manage both at once. You learn to keep just enough air in the suit that it does not squeeze, and no more — and what to do when the inflator valve sticks open and you start rising fast.
